GP Synergy is honoured to establish the Aunty Val Dahlstrom Award for Aboriginal Health Excellence (NSW/ACT) to commemorate GP Synergy’s late Aboriginal Liaison Officer, Val Dahlstrom.
Aunty Val has left a long-lasting legacy within GP Synergy. She joined the organisation in 2009 as our Aboriginal Liaison Officer, her contribution and guidance shaping GP Synergy’s resolve to help ‘close the gap’ in the health of Indigenous Australians. In her role, she helped establish relationships and engagement with the network of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services across NSW and ACT and was instrumental in developing GP Synergy’s reconciliation action plans. Val was also heavily involved in the creation of the Diploma of Practice Management for Aboriginal Medical Services and resources such as the Solitaire Explore App, in addition to authoring publications such as ‘Gives us a break’.
The award recognises excellence in Aboriginal health by a GP Synergy staff member, supervisor, registrar or staff member of an accredited Aboriginal Health Training post within NSW/ACT.
This is one of GP Synergy’s peak awards, with recipients receiving a plaque and $3000 cash prize.
